if you plan to put 14 psi on top ofthe stout runner you have now, take a good look at the pic joel posted............

+1 for the tune. ive seen stock blocks (NOT the stock shortblock mind you) handle around 550rwhp, but thats playing with fire like you cant believe. id say throw in a lightweight rotating assembly, neutral balance if possible. the biggest problem with the 302 block are the weak main caps. if anything use a 28.2 oz crank since it has lower operating wear on the caps than the 50 oz.
good crank, strong rods, and good forged pistons and a SAFE tune, will let you keep it alive longer than a stock shortblock.
