set timing, need help
When you take it out you are basically setting a "rough timing". The spout connector basically lets the computer take over the timing. You can "fine tune" the timing once you have the "rough timing" set. Same principle but you have the spout in. You only want to go a slight few degrees with it in though. You don't want to go moving it like 5 or more. Under 4 should be ok.
^ so whats the deal with the fine tuning?
lol its kool. hes helped me out a bunch of times, and has done the same for damn near everyone on here. but i still think a lil GFE will help him out lol.
ima set the timing tonight and ill post an update.

ok so i went and checked what my timings at. with the spout out it reads btwn 0-5 degrees? runs strong and feels much better than it used to. i set it to 12 degrees and it pings. set it back and it runs strong. it reads about 15 degrees with spout in. wtf? how can it run so good with the timing so low.
ignore the reading you are getting with the spout in... i told you this before
when you remove the spout connector you are removing the ECM's ability to control timing by itself. when you re-install it, the car is making the proper adjustments based on running conditions... which is why I told you to set it/forget it/stfu before
if you are pinging at 12°... then its very likely that you balancer is shot... replace it and reset timing again

i set base timing to 12 degrees with spout out and it sounded good, put spout back in and it pings like crazy.
so i think adder hit it on the spot, its probabley the balancer.
My book doesn't show it!
Is it the edge of the long pointer sticking out?
