Default 87-93 Tanny Fitment?

I have an 87 5.0 gt. My transmission went out and I am trying to find a nice used one. My questions is, can I just replace it with any 87-93 from a V8 or is it 87-88 specific or..? Do I need to get the info off of the tag or is that just if I wanted to get a rebuild kit. Thanks your help is really appreciated

they werent year specific, but they were 4-cyl and 8-cyl specific due to the extra torque of the V8. find an '87-'93 T5 out of a 5.0 and you should be fine. '94 and '95 had different input shafts than the Fox body ones. anybody wanna confirm this JUST in case im wrong about something......

87-93 mustang with a 5.0l will fit right in a 94-95 mustang trans the the input shaft is longer i have heard that if u take the bell housing off the 94-95 that it will work also u can use a trans out of a 87-93 mustang 4cyl u have to change the pilot bearing though

i had a 4cyl t5 that burnt up on me within the first 45 min of driving it. the guy i bought the car from probably just through something together so who knows if the t5 was even any good. not sure about using the bell housing from a 94-95 with a t5 from a 94-95 to work but i know the input shaft can be changed from those to match up right for 87-93 with the stock bellhousing. check the tag and run the info against the specs so you know what your getting, not to say that exactly whats inside but a good possibility. also can check the gear ratio with the tag info.

94/95's will not work on a fox without changing the input shaft, if you were to use the 94/95 bell the shifter would come thru the floor about 2-3 inches farther back, not good.

if a 94/95 bell were to be used doesnt the driveshaft need to be shorter also. stock would be too long. i wouldnt mind my shifter being a few inches back.

You should be fine with the same driveshaft. 79-04 use the same length. You should be fine. But then you have to wonder if there is enough adjustment in the trans crossmember. The double hump part is supposed to slide back and forth across the tubes on the ends. Most people weld them after getting everything in. I am not sure how they are from the factory. I don't recall anyone putting a 94+ t5 and bell in a fox but I'm sure you can make it work. You just might have to cut into the trans tunnel a little to clear and you most likly wont be able to use the trim around the shifter.
