Default new intake now my car wont run right

i just put a used edelbrock performer intake on my 87. i started it up and it wont idle, runs real rough, backfires and acts like its misfireing. i checked the timing more than once so its right on. i made sure all the plug wires were right (even though i didnt touch them to begin with) and i cant find any vacum leaks. someone told me that i needed to reprogram the cumputer or put a chip in it but i dont see why i would need to since all i did was put on a intake. my father keeps telling me to put it back to stock but i dont want to unless i have to so any help would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like you have a vacum leak somewhere and its causing the car to lean out,Possibly the lower isn't sealed up as good as you think it is.

if the wires are all hooked up right, it sounds like a vacuum leak. look really good for a vacuum line that you did not hook up.

you have a vaccum leak and the best place to check is the side gasket

Hopefully the manifold is not warped but it does sound like a vacuum leak. I know this is stupid question but are you sure that all the vacuum nipples are plugged?

one of the best ways i find these leaks is with starting fluid. with the car on spray where the upper and lower meet. or around the hoses, if the car instantly kinda revs up that is where your leak might be.
