Default 5.0 wont rev past 5500

I have a 88 GT with a mild 302. The problem is that the motor cuts out around 5500 it runs and drives fine up until about 5500 then it starts to cut out. Any ideas?

The cars computer has a built in fuel cutoff around that area... I don't remember the exact number but you don't need to be any higher than 5500 anyway. You're not making any power.

cutoff is 6250, do you have the correct valvetrain to match the cam specs?

what kind of plug do you have ?

close them up to .046" and see how it runs

are they copper plugs ? or crappy platinum or iridium ? if either....dump them

Sounds like a big cam and weak valve springs.... resulting in valve float at anything above 5500 RPM.
