Transmission ??
I have a 94 5.0 w/ a built AODE with an external B&M cooler and a deep B&M pan. What is the average transmission temp i should be running? I think its running hot but i dont know what to judge it against.
Thank you for your help

im running a 4800 stall in my c4 with a dynamic trans cooler no fan mounted in front of the radiator 4 inches with no fan and i can cruise up and down telegraph here in detorit all day with out my trans temp never going over 180. they say you want to keep the trans temp under 180 for prolonged life but i wouldnt worry if it getup around 195 long as its not every day. what temp are you seeing on your trans temp gauge?

210 - 215.... what could be making it run so hot? Could it be because I need a higher stall converter?
I just installed a new 306 w/ afr heads and i had a low (similar to stock) stall converter in it and now it pretty much has no stall at all. Should i lok into something with a nigher stall?
How do I know what stall to look for?

Generally speaking, high stalls CAUSE heat. My trans bumped up in temp to arond 190 around town from 180 after swapping in the 3k stall.
Is there a chance you might have a kinked line somewhere in the system? A kinked or undersized line will cause heat, or a bunch of excess hose.

yes higher stalls will create more heat becuase they are slipping a lot more, unless your drag racing ur car more then driving i wouldnt suggest anything higher then 3000 rpm stall. like the guy above me said make sure your lines are not kinked. also where is you cooler mounted? Are you always into the gas hot rodding from light to light? the more you beat on an auto the hotter its gonna get. Is it a stock valve body or manual valve? what type of fluid are you using synthetic is going to run cooler? at 215 your cutting your trans life in half and for every 10* over 210 its getting cut in half each time.

The trans cooler is mounted on the front of the radiator towards the bottom. Im also using the stock cooler inside the transmission. The lines are stock for now. Do they make steel braided line kits or my car?

you can get steel braided lines for it but it will be a one off kind of system i have steel bradied lines that are wrapped in rubber. Basically hydraulic lines that would go on a fork lift or bobcat, they had to be made to my lengths that I measured. Your problem may be that its mounted on the radiator because you are then sharing heat from the coolant in the radiator with your trans cooler, if you can try and make some brackets that will hold the cooler in front of the radiator about 2 inchs.
