Rearend HELP
I just put in a rearend in my 85 T-top that came out of a 87 Mustang 4 banger and when i opened it up to change the fluid everything was nice and clean and looked to be new which is great.
Well after I put the rearend in the car and I spun the axles I heard a ticking noide from inside the rearend like the gears were clicking together, so I climbed under the car to get closer to the sound and I spun the yoke where the driveshaft attaches to the rearend and it didnt make a noise.
What makes a noise when you spin the axles but DOESNT when you spin the yoke where the driveshaft attaches??????
Is it an open differential????

Just the spider gears spinning, you have an open diff.
Throw that rear in the garbage and find an 8.8 with a posi.

So there isnt anything wrong with the rearend then?
Is going to be used for a 2.3T T-top that im going to use as a DD
I have been talking and asking questions on the forums and have gotten different answers as the rearend is bad and the rearend is fine bc its an open diff and is suppose to sound that way.
So is the rear fine or not??

it's fine for your intended use, heck I ran a 7.5 with guts out of an 85 in my 92 for 5 years and held up to over 200 passes of 4500-5500 k rpm drops at the track until it finally blew the spider gears out
