Roller lifters DO NOT need to replaced with a cam change, now if it were a flat tappet cam then yes the lifters must be replaced. I don't know, but maybe your buddies dad had it mixed up, or he is from the old scj=hool and does not know better.

no need to replace lifters unless they are collapsed. ususally they dontneed changed. i didnt when i put my motor together

I have a good used set of lifters with about 15k on them if your in a bind...
