there is a large black plug and a little grey plug. Both need to be plugged in.

I have an actron manual at the house and can help you more later if the model number is the same.

If it is like mine, there are two switches on it. One for noise and the other is for test.

Try plugging it up with the scanner not on test. (I can't remember the name of the setting opposite of test).

After plugging it in like this, get in the car and turn the key to the on position. Then shift into neutral.

After that, get out of the car with the key on and flip the tester to test. You should start hearing relays clicking and what have you. Then your codes should start coming.

Be careuel not to switch it off test until it is unplugged or it will erase the codes in the computer.

1. Did you make sure the batteries were good in the scanner

2. Did you plug it into the cigar lighter, also.

3. Is your cigar lighter fuse blown.

We got the same one. Try the steps I wrote in my other post. If it doesn't work, you will need to get the battery tested or just get a new one. It shouldn't be over 5 bucks.

When you flipped it to test with the key on, it just kept making that noise

sounds like something may be wrong. Just to be sure, I will get the book out tonight and print the steps like they do in it.

You did have the key in the on position, like where it would be if you were driving it?

My tester stays on all the time after I cut the key off or when I have the key on acc. or in the off position.
