Default Header install this weekend

I am going to be installing a set of shorty BBK headers on my 1990 lx this weekend. What is the best procedure for doing so, is it better done from underneath the car or from above? Do you think I should start spraying the existing bolt heads with some WD-40 everyday prior to the disassembly? Will I be able to leave the stock manifolds hooked to the factory exhaust and remove it as a whole piece? Thanks for any input ahead of time.

They'll go in from the top. Don't waste your time spraying bolts with WD40, it won't help. Pick up a can of PB blaster and spray everything, that stuff works wonders.

So how long would it take someone to put them on. Considering the person is a decent mechanic and getting help from a friend who is a very good mechanic? Just trying to plan my labor day weekend, you know how these projects can get carried away when you have other stuff to be doing. Thanks in advance for replies.

depending on how easily things come apart... a few hours.

When I installed my shorties, i had already replaced my mid pipe, so the bolts werent inpossible to remove. I pulled the old headers, put in the new ones, did a full tune up and oil change, along with a fuel filter in about 3 hours.

Took me about 2 1/2 hours and that was with drinking lots of beer in the process. Only problem I ran into was bolting back up the stock midpipe with the cats in the way, other than that easy. Are your replacing your midpipe too?

I am going to install the headers and an offroad h-pipe this weekend. It is not my DD, so I am going to save up some money and go through the decision process of what mufflers to use in a few weeks...still havent decided what I want to run for mufflers.

i just did mine,i'm a first timer and it took me about two hours to put it all together.the hardest part was seperating the pass side off the manifold.everything was rusted but my manifold bolts came out like nothing.try the bolts in the manifold before you get to worried.i twisted 3 bolts off with an impact and had to use a die grinder and cut off wheel
for passenger side.if you can afford it,buy new ox sensors, old ones are a pain if you can get them to budge.my set up is bbk equal shorties with o\r x pipe and flowmasters.
