Default rebuild time

found a tranny rebuild kit, its a kit by tremec, gonna order that its only 250$

now im looking for engine kits. do i need to put in new pistons?? or should mine be fine?

im not looking for a big power gain or anything, and ive not really got any signs of the engine going, just its 130,000 miles and i think its time to buy the stuff and do it in the winter.

im looking for a decent priced rebuild kit, anyone know of any good ones??

summit they are 500$ with pistons or like 200 without, i dont know what to do..someone help lol

Summit make's great kits and if you do get one with piston's i would get forged. But there is really no reason to change the pistions unless they are showing wear or damage. So i would just overhaul it with new rings, rod bearings, main bearings, cam bearings and just hone the cylinders, unless you have some deep scratchs in the cylinder walls then new pistions is a must considering you will have to bore the block to remove them.

get the pistons. im glad i did because m,y old ones were cracked [:@]. the increase in compression will give you a nice hp increase. they should by flycut so you can use a bigger cam as well. i used the summit kit and it worked great

thanks both, good info

forged gives lower compression, but if im staying NA, i dont need low compression do i?? the hyper-whatchacallits, are cheaper, and give more compression = more power, right???

mkspeed, yours was it the kit form summit brand was umm.. speed pro i think?

No forged just expand more than hyperteuctic. If they have the same dimensions, they both make the same compression.

NA you can have higher compression. when you boost an engine the forced induction increases the true compression ratio

There's nothing wrong with replacing parts with age on them with new parts and sometimes just because a part "seems" to be good does not mean that it has hidden problems so for the money i would just go ahead and replace the pistions but that IMO and everyone has one.
