Default cleaning gt-40/explorer stuff?

Just pulled upper and lower manifold off an explorer. how did you guys get those parts clean? The gaskets are baked on. What should I soak them in? thanks

Take to a machine shop well worth the couple of dollars. Will be clean no fuss.

I didn't think of that. Didn't know a machine shop would do that. I am thinking i will soak the old gaskets in Xylol or just gas, and hope it will then come off with a putty knife.

just becareful w/ alloy. i used degreaser and let it set for a while then hit it with the pressure washer and scraped off the rest.

also check w/ ure local machine shop to see what they offer

Most machine shops only charge $10-$15 to hot tank an intake like that.

It's not worth cleaning it yourself if you don't have a blast cabinet.

I use 3M Roloc polishing discs for all my gasket cleaning jobs. Work like a champ and they don't scratch, scuff, or maul even the cheapest aluminum.
Need an angled air die grinder for best use though. With a high enough RPM tool, you don't even have to pre-clean a big thick gasket, like an oil pan. Just let it come flying off as dust.

i used a rozor blade in a gasket scraper.. also if ur looking to clean it up a bit and paint it. i just used a wire wheel on a drill then used engine primer and silver engine paint. (high temp paint)

thanks for all the input. I am just gonna save myself the time and bring it to a machine shop. While there i should have them tap any holes needs. It's off a 96 and has internal EGR, so what else if anything needs to be tapped?

the #5 runner for ur IAC sensor there should be a bung on the 96 one
