Default engine just shuts off

Ok I have one thats got me stumped. My 84 gt 350 sometimes just shuts off and I can start it right back up but will not stay running. I can start it 20 or 30 times and it is like I start it and turn the switch right back off. then it will start and run without me doing anything different. I changed the ignition switch a month ago and thought I had fixed it but today it did it again.
it still has the stock distributor and duraspark ignition.

Sounds like spark not fuel. Carb will not just abruptly die, it will run like crap before it just simply shuts down.

Have you checked for spark when it does it? Coil may be on its way out. Common problem with any coil, will work alright, then once it gets hot shuts down, then once it's cool, will start back up again.

Actually... probably more than yourself. Half the crap we work on in our shop has a carb sittin' on top of it, as we're the only shop in our smaller city willing to work on that junk anymore aha

He says he can start it multiple times then eventually it will start, that won't be carb, nothing changed, sounds electrical.

I'm 64 years old and some of the comments I hear about carbs, you would think there was no good cars before computers and electronics. Bout any motorhead was carb savy by their 16th. birthday. We'll all fade away someday but for now, give me a screwdriver and you keep your check engine light. Have a great day
