Speedometer is drifting

Hi,

I have a stock 1988 Mustang GT 5.0. Recently the speedometer has started moving around on its own while I'm driving. Sometimes it will shoot up or down a bit. What could be the cause of this issue? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe the speedo gears could be missing some teeth?
