Default Rebuild/stroker kit?

I am new when it comes to building up a car and just have some general questions. I plan on rebuilding my motor before doing some work to it like heads and a cam, but I was wondering, if you put something like a 331 stroker kit in your motor is that basically the same thing as rebuilding it?

I just ask because I was looking at some rebuild kits, and then saw some stroker kits and they seemed to contain basically the same things for the most part.

Lastly if they are the same, what would be a good price for a 331 stroker kit with forged pistons? Also, generally would I have to change anything to install the stroker kit?

Thanks for all the help. I am just trying to figure all of this stuff out, but am not sure on what to do, or what everything is.

The block is going to take some machining to get the stroker crank in but yes it is the same as rebuilding the motor either way the same things will have to be changed, pistons, crank and all the bearings

im going to do the same thing soon. there will be some machining to the block like saleen said but not much more. i kno DSS has kits for a 331 stoker for around 1000 and 347 stroker for like 1300 or 1500. summit also has a kit for like 1200 for a 347.

How much would someone charge usually to machine the block?

Yeah you suggested just getting a 351 shortblock and building it up on the side awhile ago... But yeah I guess that would probably be the best way to go. I think I'll do that but I'm going to be asking a lot of questions because I don't know what I'm doing really. I am just so impatient, building it up on the side is going to be so damn hard for me to wait as I do it. Thanks for all of the feedback.

One last question. Are there any 351w shortblocks that you would reccommend going with that are going to kill me as far as money goes? Somewhere around $1,500 or so.
