take a closer look at the end of the tube and check to see if it actually snapped off flush.

Well both ends are nothing a like at all so either it broken or there are other problems here. The end with the flat piece of metal closest to it would be the top where it is supposed to mount to a header bolt. and the bottom where it goes into the oil pan should be pretty distinct.

i recently put shorty headers on my car so that explains why its no longer held in place by the header bolt. i took my dipstick and stuck it down in the hold just to make sure nothing was stopping it and in went through just fine. i just dont get it. ive bent the tube many different ways to get a better angle. proably a dumb question but i assume if i drove the car at all or even started it for that matter, that oil would spurt out of the hole?

Thats a 5.0 for you..... **** fallin apart.

lol, jk. And the guy up theres right, it goes in the block not the head.... It should slide right in if you get the angle right. I like to put some silicone around the outside of the dipstick tube where it slide into the block, helps hold it on.

there should be a small lip about 1" from the end.. this end slides into the block

it doesn't go in far.

make sure the dipstick isn't hitting the crank.
