Default stall speed

Can someone explain what a stall speed is and how it works? thanks. Also, what is "converter lockup" when talking about torque converters. How does that happen? thanks a lot.

stall speed is basically how high the rpms go when you mash the gas. with my 2800 rpm converter the rpms jump to about 2400 when i hammer it. it really helps the car get off the line.

converter lockup is when the two opposing pieces of the converter lock together. this helps gas mileage, due to less converter slippage. it also keeps the trans. much cooler.

a stall speed torque converter is when accelerating, the power of you motors to your transmisison doesnt kcik in until that certain RPM. For example, say you have a 2500 stall. if you pwoer break it off the line, the power doenst kick in until 2500 so you dont spin the tires when trying to get a good start. also, you get bad gas milage with a stall and a rough idle.. haha

sorry but a stall doesnt affect idle at all. and sorry again if you powerbrake it off the line that is foot stall not actual stall and youll never ever see teh full stall speed at a foot brake. and the number they show you is the flash of the converter. usually a foot brake speed is about 800[roughly] lower then actual flash speed
