My comments are goint to show my age, but my 1st 4 or 5 Mustangs, all had C4s in them (ODs hadn't been developed yet). They were all daily drivers, and I/we drove them on the highway all of the time. Most had a relatively high gear ratio (3.08 / 3.50), but my 74 Maverick Grabber had a C4, with a 3.90 gear and Detroit Locker. I drove it everywhere. If it's your daily driver, and you commute on the highway/freeway, I probably wouldn't do it. But if it's a toy, or limited driver, I'd definately do it.

he said he hasn't installed better bands and clutches but I found a great online reference and he told me to just buy the parts and he will install it for me for a small fee. This guy is brother gritlfriend uncle. He doesn't have a shop but he has been doing it for a long time. My only concern is, I want to use it on my local drag strip its a 1/8 mile. Is the transmission good enough for that. From what i am hearing from you guys and articles online its a good transmission. but my brother doesnt like the idea of a 3 speed auto. I tell him it can be better for drag because of less shifts and less time to jump to another gear. For example if it takes 0.11 seconds to shift a gear and you have 6 that .66 and on ab auto its .33, is my logic working correctly. anyways thanks for the help guys I am going to buy it. Thanks

Running a c4 in my stang right now. Was using a 26'' tire and 4.10's and it was a nightmare on the freeway. Its rockin 3.27's now and no problems.

If you have the money to put into it a built AOD is a nice trans too but c4's don't break like AOD's do.

LOL yea right I have seen the best of the best break when you start getting around that 1000hp some maybe a touch more they are living on borrowed time. trust me they are gone to brake. Last one I seen brake was a 1000 hp turbo stang and it broke the main shaft in half. Now that is something I had never seen. it was done by PA they walked by the guy before it broke and asked is that our trans he said yea the guy just cringed and walked away. his goes back around 4 times a year for a rebuild or repair due to braking it but like said it is 1000 hp car that is around 3400#..LOL

Well I think a 1000HP is enough to break any transmission lol.

Not really there a few autos that will take that HP if done right and do it reliable.

c4 is a tough trans.i think the biggest issue is if you can live with only three gears.i have an aod and can't stand running anymore than 45 mph while holding third.but that's me.if you have offroad exhaust you better crank the tunes if cruising at higway speeds.
