Default c4 transmission

do you guys think it's a good idea to get a c4 for my 5.0. I am considering it.
I have a good deal right now, its a c4 freshly rebuilt and rollerized.
also lighten the sungear shell and weld-reinforced the forward
drum to help prevent split-out when using transbrake. He want's $350 and I think I'm going to do it. I know it's a 3 speed auto transmission but man I love how the things shifts so fast and smooth and it's lighter than the T5 as well.

what do you guys think?

I run a c4 have for years BUT I only run 331 rear gears now and a 28in tall tire so it is not bad at all but when I ran 373 it was not real fun out on the highway. I have a customer run one with 411 and a 27in tall tire and I can say it SUCKS but to each his own . Does sound like a good deal on it. ours is not a D/D but the one my customer runs is he drive 15 miles to work one way so that is not to bad. we run a 3800 stall he runs a 4000 stall. Make sure you run a large trans. cooler and if it don't have a deep pan you really should get one for it. that is one of the draw backs of the c4 it don't hold much fluid and with a lose converter it gets hot fast. The more fluid you get in the thing the better the cooling will be.

I too have been thinking about this swap. Not ot hijack your thread, but does anyone know if the C4 from a 77 F100 is the same length as the Mustang trans? I have an old truck with a good C4 behind a 302 and was thinking of building it and using it if it would bolt in without having to make a driveshaft and such.

I run a 26" tall tire with a 3.55 gear.

what trans do you have now? this what I would do if it is a stick then drive around in 4 gear that is one 1to1 or if it is a auto ride around in third that is what it is gone to be like with the C4.

all c-4s are the same length. They do have different bellhousings. Either bellhousing will work but, the smaller is the more desired because of the extra room it allows. The driveshaft I believe will work. The guy that I traded my c-4 for the 3550 had the c-4 in the car that night. i don't think he had an extra driveshaft and he never went to the junkyard.

All drive shafts for the fox will work between the c4,AOD, T5, and tremecs (minus swapping the yolk for the tremec). When it comes with different bellhousings you also have to find the correct flywheel and that will need to be planned or bought before you get a converter so you get the right bolt spread. Just a FYI a c4 isn't lighter than a T5, especially when you take in the weight of the converter. All in all it sounds like a good deal for what is done to it. Did he even install better bands or clutches? What about a shift kit?

The reason I asked about tailshaft length is because when I swapped from a 351W/C6 that was in another 77 F150 to a 77 460/C6 from a 77 Lincoln Mark V, the car had a longer tailshaft so I had to shorten the driveshaft and fab a tranny mount.
I also have a small block C6 but I think the C4 would be a better choice.
