Default What cam is this?

I just tore down a 5.0 shortblock and i cant tell what cam was in it. It didnt have a real choppy idle and could be stock for all i know. The cam had no markings on it accept for the number 211 and a 3 on it. It also had some kind of marking that resembled the letter "k". What is this thing?

yea only if its not a decent cam. its going in a 347 so im not sure what to do. I was thinking trick flow stage 1 for the value. I have buddies that made 300+ at the wheels with the trick flow stage 1. is there a way to measure the lobes?

hehe TFS1 in a 347... thats funny

lets compare the TFS1 to my 347's cam which is NOT agressive

Intake lift:
TFS1: .499"
Mine: .579"

Exhaust Lift:
TFS1: .510"
mine: .579"

Intake duration:
TFS1: 221°
mine: 236°

Exhaust duration:
TFS1: 225°
mine: 245°

seeing a pattern here?

i think regardless of what that cam is, if you are building a 347, throw the cam away, and get a custom grind tailored to the heads and intake you have, and how you want the car to perform

i THINK addermk2 HIT the nail on the head....................if your content with a 347 make just over 300 rwhp, I'd be embarrassed for a 347 to do such

how can you come here saying that you are going to build a 347.. but you dont have the money for a custom ground cam.

funny how there is never enough money to do it right... but ALWAYS enough money to do it over

I tried two custom grinds on my custom stroker engine. Last month I swapped in an off the shelf Comp Cams part. Car runs much better. Havn't been to the dyno yet. But it pulls harder, and will easily hit 125 on the front stretch at PPIR with a passenger. Before the swap I could just barely make 120 w/o a passenger.

The point is, a custom cam isn't always the right answer. And it's not mandatory to getting good power.

Go to the comp cams web site. Cruise through the catalog and get an idea of what you're reading. Take a look at what the descriptions are: idle quality, mods required, power range, etc. Keep in mind that a 347 will need a cam 1-2 steps higher than a 302.

CC also has a downloadable program to help you choose a good cam. It's not the end all/be all. But it's a good tool if used correctly.

As for the cam you have, you can fairly easily get the specs using a degree wheel and a dial indicater. It's real easy to do with the cam in the block. But if you're real carefull, you can build a jig to check it on the bench.

thanks bob. And to answer the rest of you, i was rebuilding a motor and found out that the 347 crank was the same price as the 302 so i went for the bigger one. Not everyone is looking for a an all out race car. im only looking for a twelve second car. And i have seen a bunch of guys go 11s on an e cam in a stroker. All motor. Depends on your set up. I was simply asking what cam would perfrom well. My engine builder will know. thanks anyway. Next time you answer someone keep in mind that not everyone has the money to "do it right" as you say. Fastest is not always right.
