i have a '93 mustang gt and it starts shaking when i rev past 3,000 RPM when its in gear. if its in neutral it's fine, but when i'm driving the whole car shakes.

because of this, i shift before 3k which really hurts my acceleration, like my friends VW passat could beat me because i have to shift so early.

my mechanic thinks that its the flywheel and it needs to be resurfaced.

but he said since i'm learning to drive stick on the clutch i have, then i should just wait til the clutch burns up and when i have a new clutch put in, i will just have the flywheel resurfaced at the same time.

ok, so my question is this, is it probably the flywheel? could it be anything else? just out of curiousity.

i know that if it was the driveshaft then it would shake all the time, and if it was the universals then it would shake whenever i take off or start moving.

Is it at 3k rpm in every gear or only at a certain speed? And if it doesn't shake in neutral, it's not engine related.

It kinda sounds like the problems I was having with mine before I put it up for the winter. My shifter would start vibrating at 2800 and got dramatically worse after that with some noise. I won't know what's wrong with mine until spring.

Did you look at the u joint in the drive shaft?

If it's rpm specific and not mph specific and only when in gear, it's probably something to do with the input shaft, input shaft bearing, or perhaps the retainer.
