Cool NEEDING SOME HELP

I'm gonna try not to write a book but if anyone can help and needs info. I haven't provided...Please...Ask. I had an 89 LX 5.0 5 speed that got totaled. I bought a 91 hatch and pulled everything from the 89 to put in it.
While the engine was out I rebuilt it. new rings,F-303 cam, high volume oil pump, edelbrock 5.0 intake with 24#injectors and 70mm throttle body and EGR. It has a 76mm mass air meter with cold air intake.heads are redone e7's with 1.6 roller rockers(just temp. til I get the trick flows) The 5 speed has a centerforce clutch and adjustable clutch cable.
I set the timing at 14 degrees.
Now my problems....1)I have to give it gas to start,
2)after it starts,I let the clutch out and it revs at 2000-3000 RPM.Push clutch in it idles at roughly 500 rpm.If I let it idle high,it idles for a few minutes then drops on it's own. If I"take it around the block" then the car will start to surge. If I shut it off,it either won't start until it cools down or I have to pump the gas.And....
3) one day the car will not start at all(like no spark)and the next day fires right up.
If anyone has any ideas of what's wrong or what I can do to correct the problem,It would be greatly appreciated.

tunning issues or vacuum leaks maybe? maybe your tps is out of wack or your iac is shot.

Cool

I've thought about that.I took carb cleaner and sprayed all vacuum lines(nothing).I've read about the IAC and I'm gonna pull it off tomorrow and clean it.

Sounds like you have the distributor one tooth off. Get the number one piston back to TDC. Move the distributor to zero advance. Check to see if the rotor is pointing to the number one post.

+1 on the TPS.

First of all, did you pull any codes?

I would do a base idle reset and make sure your checking idle voltage at the TPS as well as WOT (koeo of course ). Theres plenty of info around here on how to reset your idle.

Double check your timing too as MustangBradley already stated.

Also, if your not getting no spark (how are you checking?), that will be down to the coil, TFI or PIP. Again, theres threads around here on how to test those 2 circuits.

Cool

I'm unable to pull the codes out of the computer. I'm not getting a signal from the computer and I'm checking into that. as far as the no spark thing....I get spark to the distridutor but not to the plugs(I use another spark plug to check).Yesterday and today the car started fine. As many times as I've had the distributor out I'm pretty confident that I've got it Timed right. I'll double check to make sure though.

Look for the threads on how to test your TPS. That sensor is often the root of all problems.

Sorry I Haven't been on for awhile. I've been extremely busy and haven't even had time for the stang.
I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who gave me their input and advise on what to do.I reset my iac and it seems to be running better(I actually drove to work after lunch). I think I'm gonna have to pull my dash to check the ground on the computer but no biggie. It's Idling a little high(800-1000) but that may be in the set screw(I'll have to change it out).THANKS AGAIN Guys
