when checking for valve tip wear pattern with factory rollers lifters converted to solids are you supposed to add length for the preload when i put my factory roller lifters back in? i came up with 6.65" for correct wear pattern, i've read that you want .20-.60 preload. how much preload do most people go with. this will be a mostly track car turning 6500 rpms.

are you using stud mount or pedastal roller rockers??? either way for stud mount, you go to 0 lash then 1/4 to 1/2 turn after that and lock it down for pedastal you should reach 22-25 ft lbs of torque on the 5/16 bolt after 0 lash is reached in 3/4 to 1 full turn

thats not what i'm asking, when i order the pushrods should i add more length for the preload?

no iirc, what you measure with the length checker is what you order, I use the factory lifter in place to check for placement with no preload , just taken down to 0 lash and the tip covered with a black sharpie, then I rock the tip side to side so it etches a mark to give me an idea where the run out pattern will start then I go back and install the solid lifter and run the pattern, but with the solid installed I don't add in preload just taken down to 0 lash, hydraulic pressure will take up the .020-.060 preload space once motor is running thus raising the cup IIRC back to a near close to at rest position , if we lived in a perfect world.
