I was standing near my car while it idled when I noticed a strange sound coming from the exhaust. the best description I have is that it sounded like popcorn popping. That and recently it has been surging very hard upon start up but usually finds a nice idle within 30 or so seconds.

Recent changes are an edelbrock intake manifold, though the surging had been occurring on the stock manifold just as bad.
other than that stuff shorty headers, xpipe, and no emissions have all been there for a while.

Seems to run fine, pulls hard. just wondering if I am worrying about nothing.

Get a video up of it. Have you tried taking your muffler loose and shaking it to see if there is anything in it?

no cats, all emissions crap is either removed or unhooked and plugged,

tried taking a video, the popcorn noise is too faint relative to the normal exhaust noise.
