Rough Shift after Clutch Swap
#11
Here is the easiest way to tell if your 89's clutch is disengaging.
With the engine idling. Clutch pedal up and shifter in neutral. The press the clutch pedal down to the floor. Wait at least 4 seconds and go straight to reverse. It should not grind.

ooh yeah factory clutch cable adjustment is stupid but it used to help me a little bit when my cable was going out..... lift the pedal up, from the back, with the front of your foot, you'll feel a click then press it down all the way until you supposedly feel another click, but i would rarely feel the second click... do that like three to five times with the car off and in first gear.

joshs89gt: I put in 85w-140 i believe. It did say 'gear oil' on the container and that it was usable for manual transmissions. I will try to swap it out with atf. Regarding the stock cable adjustment: I never hear the second click as well. I will try what you said.
Jfsram: I will try that later today, but I always put it into second before going into reverse (on the previous clutch it used to grind a little and thus I started doing this as habit).
sn95_331_GT_ yellow: I popped the old bearing and hammered in a brand spanking new one in. It seemed properly aligned as well.
Yesterday evening I tried to adjust it manually using: http://corral.net/tech/drivetrain/clutcha.htm and I noticed it to be much better, however it didnt stick to the setting. I think some of the lower teeth on my quadrant are worn out. How hard is it to change the stock quadrant? I really really dont want to pull out the steering column or anything that drastic.

So last night I switched back from gear oil to Dexron III and noticed a substantial improvement. It still feels a little weird: I'm hoping the quadrant will fix this issue.
I think it is definitely the quadrant because what Jfsram said didnt work well. i.e. it was grinding when putting it into reverse.
