Ok I'm 28 now (lived to see it!) and when I was your age I was splitting time between a 91 Legacy wagon, 89 Grand Caravan, and a 91 Miata. Honestly I don't know that I would have made it to 20 with a driver's license if I had a modified 5.0 back then. It's your choice though, and you'll have to live with the consequences.

That aside, the first thing I'd do is upgrade the brakes. big brake kit with good pads, stainless lines, and quality rotors. Forget drilling them, that's for show or people who can afford to replace them all the time.

Next, chassis stiffening - subframe connectors, strut bars, roll cage if you're honestly looking at top end.

Call me crazy but I'd get a saleen style rear decklid wing. It's a huge parkbench but I believe it works. I've had mine up to about 150 or so with no roof and it was glued.

Then I'd start with stuff to make more power - headers, cat-back, high flow catted h/x pipe, CAI, larger maf, throttle body, u/l intake manifold, cam, heads...

No that wasn't me or my family, the dumbass before me had done a really ****ty job of painting it because now there are lots of spots where the blue didn't adhere to the white, the prep work was horrible and you can see a spot where he had put his hand on the paint before it was dry. I'm going to go get it painted oxford white, that way I don't have to get the engine bay and door jambs painted. But you guys are right, I don't need to do a top speed car. I guess I'm just really trying to fing a path to go down right now. But I probably should work on getting it painted, put a new stereo in, and at least get this POS looking acceptable lol. So when I have the extra $$$ layin around I can buy some performance goodies. You guys think it'd look alright oxford white, with a white top and red and black interior? You guys have probably just saved my life , and I'm sorry for starting a pointless post.

you want a fast interstate car......we'll first you need to make it stable at those speeds with the right air damn and rear spoiler also you can use a 2.73 or 3.08 gears..... so first the k -member and some tubelur a-arms..wider rims and tires a must, poly bushings all over. also the car need to be closer to 50/50 wt distribution..also will need electric fans and deep groove pulleys because at high speed driving over miles can cause to throw a belt or 2.. good brakes for fast stops..like 4 wheel disc and 73mm calipers up front or 13" discs

ok if you want an interstate machine they you need to start looking at cars set up for road racing, their is no such thing as setting a car up for the interstate, if you have a car set up for road racing then it will be 10 times better then the little mods you are thinkin about, you need to drop the car, wider tires and wheel, like 10inch wide wheels, better sway bars, all wheel dics so when your cranking at 140+ and some one pulls in front of you, you can bring that thing to a hult, major chassie stiffning, like kenny brown matrix bars and jacking rail, sub frame conectors, reinforced torque boxes. all that kind of stuff. it needs to be able to take turns really fast, stop really fast before you make it go really fast.

Lol ya I know who vanilla ice is and I've heard that song lol. This is a daily driver car. I'm going to do susupension next, just a few things to stiffen it up, I've even thought about a roll cage. Dirt roads and a convertible don't mix very well so it would help by stiffening up the car and keeping me safe.

dirt roads and drag stiff dont mix either. you will be happier with some softer springs, with stiffer or adjustable shocks/struts. just for kicks im going to inform everyone that a car built for very high speeds doesnt need a stiff chassis, they are built to flex a little. the only time stiffening is needed is when ACCELARATION TRACTION, and CORNERING TRACTION is needed. anyways, im glad you changed youre mind, you will look back one day and say man, that was a good decision. when you have a 16yr old son and he wants to build a car to run 160MPH you will know why we talked you out of it.

Hey 5.0 Convertible.....im 16 too and also have a 5.0. I know how u feel about going that fast my friends have 3000Gt that do that crap. Ya it freaking fast as Sh*t but u shouldnt be doing that. I/ve had people i know die from running from 120 and above its horrible going to there funeral and watching there mom cry and father shake his head. Just be smart about i doubt that u will have enough roon to hit 160 and up u need alot of room this is a mustang. 5 seconds fast not all the way to 180 on the freeway.
