https://mustangforums.com/forum/5-0l...made-easy.html

don't pay anybody a dime... this is a forum, help is free

get a good kit to start with. I run summit racing's relocation setup.

you DONT need to move the solenoid, infact, its best to leave it where it is.

run a 4 gauge power wire from the alternator, to the trunk, preferably down the passenger side.
run a 0 or 1 gauge wire from the solenoid to the trunk

install a kill switch in the trunk, preferably a flaming river switch with the long pull lever. this lever will pass through the trunk pan near the licence plate, so you can disconnect power from outside the car. The nice thing about the FR switch, is you can remove the handle, so random dicks dont shut your car off on you!

install a battery box in the trunk with 3/8" or thicker studs secured THROUGH the trunk pan.

run the positive cable from the solenoid TO THE SWITCH
run the alternator cable to the BATTERY side of the switch. (you want the alternator to charge directly to the battery, this way, when you kill the switch, NO POWER will go to the solenoid)

run the negative to a clean piece of real estate in the trunk. preferably somewhere CLOSE to the framerails

and while drilling the 3/8" holes for the studs, do not drill into the gas tank. the tank is below the area the battery box will sit

thank you!

i was looking up switches and this is a cheap one i found. is it too cheap?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLA-FR1002/

would this be a good box to get

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1231-K/?rtype=10

or this one its even cheaper??

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1200A/?rtype=10

I could use that 1 gauge wire for the selinoid to switch, and buy some more 4 gauge for the alternator.

Or would it be better to buy just the box and buy 0 gauge and 4 gauge wire on ebay? Should i get an aluminum box or is the plastic ones fine? And they have the really cheap pastic ones?

I found that. Mabye I could get that for the selinoid to switch, and use the 2 guage cable that comes with a kit for the alternator?

^^would that 1/0 gauge cable work? (that means 0 gauge right?)

so stop bumping it... i'm subscribed to it, and will get around to answering when I damn well feel like it.

the first box and wire kit you linked is exactly what I am using, and perfect for your use. Its a sealed box... which is good.

However, im pretty sure that the switch you have chosen, is NOT what I recommended to you.

One thing you need to get through your head RIGHT NOW.... Cheap, often.. is bad!!!

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLA-FR1003-2/ is the switch you want

thx n sorry just wanted to hurry and order the stuff you know how it can be ya really wanna do something on your car

I bought the 90 dollar switch and the 125 dollar battery kit (with 1 gauge wire) and I also bought 20 feet of 4 gauge monstercable on ebay. Should be getting it soon.

Few question i have though:

1. i did the 3g alternator conversion and It told me to run the 4 gauge (fused wire from the alt. to the selinoid. But also, hook up two black/orange wires to the main power post on the alternator too. Since I do not want power when the switch is off, and since i am running the 4 gauge to the back (bat side of the switch) would I disconnect those two factory black/orange wires?

2. The short 4 gauge current wire from the alt to the selinoid has a 200 amp fuse in it, should I keep that 200a fuse from the alt to the batt side of the selinoid?

3. Run the alt to switch wire on the passenger side? (Inside?) And run the selinoid to switch on the drivers side? (inside) I took the carpet out already so it will be easy. How would I get these wires through the firewall? Get them both through on the drivers side? Because there is no holes on the passenger side that i can see.

And also i read that you should ground the engine block to the chassis? And ground the computer to the chassis? (the small wire on the stock negative battery cable)

THANK YOU so much !!!!
