The TFI is also known as an Ignition Control Module for some parts stores.
They should be able to test it for you or follow the links in my other post

LUK how it goes!

My Bad.
Yeah, I'm PADI also.
Been diving since 1990. Mostly cold water high altitude and then Puget Sound.
I use a shell dry suit with argon pony for insulate.
Dont bother with doubles, too much mass when in dry suit. Buoyancy aside, your still dragging a ton and any currents are hell.

Module is beneath MAF is sitting in a heat sink. 94-95 Earlier models it was on distributor. Profile ignition pickup is inside distributor. To replace press off distributor gear and be sure to mark shaft and gear, only goes back on one way. Worth purchase of manual and test system to find the problem. Bubba

How do I press off the distributor gear?
I tried a standard puller, but it only seemed to bend the plate

Will need a press, puller will not do. Drive out roll pin and mark gear and shaft so can press back on in correct position. 180 out and will not let roll pin go in. Pain to do, keep you from buying a cheap replacement part.

I took the distributor into a local parts store and like an idiot I followed one of the clerks advice.
I can see why he's a parts clerk and not a mechanic now.
I don't know if it can be salvaged. I ordered a re manufactured and made them give me a discount.
It should be in today.
I need to stick to this forum, as you guys were the only one that knew what your are talking about.
I might try to get the old one fixed, but the plater that holds the sensor block windows is out of true, and I think that will damage the tfi pick up.
