Default Engine Identification

I bought my mustang a 1983 5.0 from a guy who had done some work to it for better or for worse. Well anyways I bought it from him because there was little to no rust and it was at what I think was a good price which I won't mention to save my self embarrassment just in case.

Okay here is my concern that he had swapped motors and that the 5.0 in it is not from 1983. I want to put the proper engine accessories and all on not jerry rig it like he did. I am afraid I will start shopping for parts that don't fit that motor because I am only assuming it was the original motor.

So can anyone tell me where the VIN on the engine block is? or route me to a good thread that is already up. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the help. It read E0AE and from what I have found online it is a 1980 302 likely the SO from truck or something.

So you are going to spend all the time and money to put a properly date coded engine in a 1983 Mustang?? Does not make sense to me, but if it gets your rocks off go for it.

eoae is a correct date code for an 83 block, that was the cASTING NUMBER USED THEN, i HAVE A 83 long block that I redid on a stand that came out of an 83 gt, and those were the casting numbers

JD, I don't care what year it is from I just need to know what will fit on it. All the washers and spacers in the world and the accessories are still barely holding onto the front of the motor.

I see what the issue is, I read your post wrong. Ever consider trying to convert it to a serpentine belt?

Well I want to get the AC all hooked up a proper power steering pump etc and it will be a serpentine set up. I just want to make sure I find used or buy new parts that will bolt up correctly.

The trouble right now is when the vacuum advance is hooked up its timing is way off. I don't just want to leave the advance unhooked because from what I have read its important to keeping time as the engine revs faster.
