Default weird clutch install problem

i am installing a t-5 in my 5.0 mustang and i am going to install the new clutch and i noticed that the outside edge of the pressure plate is about 3/8" away from touching the flywheel. is this normal? i can run in the bolts to make it contact the flywheel but they feel too tight and actually broke one off. i got the broken bolt out but something isn't right. here are some pics to show you what i am talking about.

your picture links don't work. don't insert them into [img] tags, the board will do it for you.

Can't see your pics but a pressure plate should be against the flywheel.

The tension you are feeling is the pressure plate compressing the clutch. It's most likey over 2000lbs to compress a clutch, it will not go in finger tight.

Are your dowel pins in the pressure plate and make sure you tighten in a cross pattern and torque to spec.

make sure you didnt install the disc backwards. other than that, there should be some pressure when installing those bolts... otherwise how would the clutch work if the disc could just flop around in there

the torque wrench clicks even before the the bolts were all the way tight. the pressure plate was still away from the flywheel.

sometimes the powder coating on the new plate will cause it to stick on the dowel pins, which requires a little beating with a hammer to get them down.

but i'm gonna go with something wrong with the disc install.
