Default just picked up a 96 gt40 engine, few questions

just picked up a complete gt40 5.0 from a 96 explorer with 77k miles...

now my questions....

i believe these had 8.5:1 cr opposed to my 9:1 in my 94 gt

what aside from that contributes to the same basic hp/trq rating as my car

can anyone link me to the pistons id need to make sure it to clear big cams no problem and get 9.5 or 10:1 cr
something like these for 10:1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-S...ht_7054wt_1241
or
these for 9.5:1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SRP-1...ht_1227wt_1165

i imagine for now ill be using the heads (thinking of going carb instead of efi mainly because over parts carb setup looks to be a good bit cheaper)

gonna tear apart the engine and see how it is but will most likely go for a little higher compression pistons...

the only other question i had is, from what i heard our stock short blocks in the 94 can handle 320-330rwp safetly, are these built about the same to where the stock bottom end could handle that if i just ran it as is?

forgot to mention i paid $300

right now the plan is, long tube headers, up the compression a bit , not sure on intake/carb yet, big cam, 3.73, rebuild tranny and install shift kit while its all apart then take to get dynod/tuned after everything is said and done...

then see where i stand hp wise and see if i wanna add good aluminum heads or what from there

Mine runs pretty strong with the heads ported, a little bowl work, milled .010, CompCams springs and a stage1 TrickFlow cam.

I have never seen the power ratings of the 96 Explorer. I'm sure that Mustang's more aggressive ECM tuning and the better Mustang exhaust would make it run even better with EFI from dropping in the car as is. I'm sure you can tune the carb set-up to make the same power as EFI.

I am curious to see the dyno results when you get it done.

215hp is what the explorer is suppose to be rated at i believe...

It will be late feb by the time im finished, need tax monies to buy everything at once...

i might see if i can convince my buddy to port the heads while the motor is torn apart..

ever taken your car to the track?

I haven't had it to the track with the Explorer engine. I took it years ago with everything stock except for headers, o/r h-pipe, Flowmasters, 3.55 gears and 100hp shot of N.O.S.

It ran 7.90's in the 1/8 mile which is mid 12.40's in the 1/4 mile.

It spins thru 1st and 2nd right now so I haven't wasted my time going to the track yet. I have to get some BFG drag radials first. Our local track trays these like slicks, so I will also have to install long wheel studs and a driveshaft loop before I can race it again.
