Fuel Pump Whine

Fuel Pump Whine
1989 Mustang GT Convertible (55k original miles) is making a high pitched whine sound when running. Could be the fuel pump. I recently purchased this car, and don't really drive it because it's winter, so I am not sure if it has been making this high pitched noise all along... what is the normal sound of the fuel pump? I have tried researching this, and get conflicting reports... some say theirs has made this sound for years (common for stock fuel pump of this year), and others say it's time to replace the fuel pump... I would greatly appreciate any advice. I don't want to replace the fuel pump if it's not necessary.

often times the pumps are noisey and sometimes replacement ones are the same, depends on the brand used, walbro one I have is not to noisey, but then again it's often hard to hear over the exhaust
