Distributor Question
I'm currently assembling a Dart SHP 302-based 347 stroker in my garage, and I'm trying to figure out the ignition system. This engine will be controlled with a MegaSquirt 3 and the MS3X expander board. I'm looking to use sequential injection on it, so the stock style TFI distributor won't do since it sends a triggering signal on every spark (as far as I can tell).
So I'm looking at this Mallory EFI electronic advance distributor, with a hall-effect sensor for triggering on the #1 cylinder firing:

According to Summit Racing, this dizzy will fit a 302 block. Mallory lists this as a 351W dizzy though. I've done some reading which seems to inconclusively indicate that 302 and 351W dizzies aren't compatible. What's the deal? Can I use this dizzy on a 302 block?

Now I have a new problem - I can't seem to find a distributor of ANY make that meets the following criteria: Hall effect or Optical triggering, electronic advance, for 302.
I don't want to use a TFI dizzy, because then I can't properly trigger my MS for sequential injection. Then again, wtf am I supposed to do with a Hall effect or Optical triggered distributor if it only has mechanical or vacuum advance? That's of no use to me for having the advance be controlled by the computer. Am I SoL here? Is there no way to fit a 351w dizzy to a 302 block? All my research so far indicates that the oil pump shaft is different, but I've found only inconsistent information regarding the dimensions of the rest of the units. Without a 351w distributor to compare against, I can't verify any of this information myself. :/
i actually just pulled a 351 to put into my mustang so i have both a 351 dist and a 302 dist lying around.
from what i can tell, the distributor base circles are approximately the same, but the 302 uses a 1/4" oil pump shaft, whereas the 351 uses a 5/16" shaft. also the 351 dist is a bit taller to accomodate the higher deck height. perhaps you might consider making your own. maybe dissassemble a 302 and a 351 dist, and swap the shafts. i dunno if that works or not.
