Default valve float?

just picked up a motor from a guy that has a cam card with it, but he never replaced the springs, locks or retainers he just used stock. he says he never had a problem with valve float or anything. im not so sure, ive never run a new cam with all stock stuff or especially used stuff. just wondering if anyone knows this cam or if this intake/exhaust and if there to large for stock srings or retainers. Its a Part# 51014lun Lunati cam .500'' in .510'' exhaust. there are stock 1.6rr in it.

Springs are way overdue for a replacement with the correct ones.

supposedly it was a low mileage motor out of a 98 explorer but you know how that is. he says thats y he didnt by new hardware, you think if i get the recommended springs, retainers and locks ill be good to go? they seem to be a little bit better than stock with stiffer spring rates and stronger constructed retainers and locks. or is all that just a waste of money and id be good with stock replacement stuff? ive always bought the full cam kit where it was all included so i really dont know the difference in quality

Nope.... stock replacements will be wrong. Exhaust springs will be at coil bind and the intake ones very close to coil bind.

Bull****! Had an ecam tfs street n e7s stock spring went 6000 many times never experienced float!

Op if ur going that route would be worth the time and money to get the reccomended spring, but compare the specs and see how close they really are.

Minimum spring clearance from coil bind is .060". You have a camshaft with .500"/.510" lift and the stock valve springs specs are:

Intake:
Valve Closed Installed Height: 1.8"@82#
Valve Open Installed Height: 1.33"@230#
Coil Bind Height: 1.250"
Lift to Coil Bind: .550"

Exhaust:
Valve Closed Installed Height: 1.6"@85#
Valve Open Installed Height: 1.15"@226#
Coil Bind Height: 1.090"
Lift to Coil Bind: .510"
