Default m '88 revs itself???

I never knew about the problem till today, my dad said its been happening to him but i never saw it, till today. it did it twice, we pull up to a stop, idling in neutral (note:it does NOT do it when the clutch is depressed) it will go from idle and rev itself to 2500-3000rpm, no toughing the gas at all just idling, wants it reaches about 3000 he'd turn the key off, then turn it back on before it stalls to keep it running. it only does this when its warmed up, idling in neutral. help please?

sounds like the iac motor could be sticking, you can clean it out with carb cleaner
