Default 90 Mustang LX 5.0 won't shift out of 1st

I am looking at buying a 1990 Mustang LX 5.0. When I took the vehicle for a test drive it shifted fine under normal driving, but when I gave it full throttle it downshifted to 1st and then wouldn't shift out of 1st until I let off the throttle a little. Any suggestions as to what may be causing this?

clutch needs adjusting is my guess

it should start to engage 1" - 1 1/2" off the floor

if it engages sooner, it is probably not disengaging all the way and making it hard to shift.

if it's stock... just lift the pedal hard and depress it again. do that 3x or so and drive it again, til you get a good aluminum quadrant to replace the stock plastic junk

Default aod spelled backwards is?

First of all its an "aod" a money pit transmission, haggle the price of the car way down and if you buy it, take the aod out and put in a c4 transmission, you will be glad you did.

I plan on changing the transmission when I have the money but in the mean time is there something I could do with the current transmission to get it to shift correctly?

It won't be a daily driver I plan on turning it into a drag car. I've read that there could possibly be something wrong with the tv cable is that possible?

Is it not shifting or acting as it slips into neutral?

When you give it full throttle it down shifts fine but then it won't shift back into 2nd without letting of the gas a little
