Looking into buying a 5.0

Looking into buying a 5.0
hey guys. Since my Escort keeps getting me into trouble after the head gasket was replaced, I'm kinda fed up with all the problems and looking into buying another car.
The cars I'm looking into right now are 1994 - 1995 Ford Mustang GT, Chevy Camaro Z28, and Pontiac Firebird Formula. Since money is a big issue right now, I gotta keep the price reasonable, so I'm looking at these years. I'm leaning towards the mustang on this one, because I like the stang and I'm a ford guy, but the camaro and firebird look pretty good as well.
What I want to know is what should i look for in the 5.0 when I go to look at a car like the body, engine, transmission, etc. and how reliable are these models compared to fox bodies? What I'm looking for in a car is reliablity and I'm just fed up with problem after problem I have been experiencing.
Thanks in advance.

Anything better than what i got now will do and i saw some good deals on some fox 5.0s. What should I look for in a fox for any problems that might occur down the road?

RE: Looking into buying a 5.0
aight man look for this:
Mileage - the 5.0's last forever only if they are taken care of properly but be scared of one with a lil mileage
Manual or Auto- see if cluth is good or if thee is hesitation.
Hatch or Coupe- weather stripping see if discolored at all.
Modds- be careful with the 5.0s that people have messed with not all ppl know what they are doing.
Yr of 5.0- i tend to trust the 87-93's more better build quality and Faster.
Electronics- windows sqeak at all? Power mirrors still work good? Lights?
Tires- tread left?
Engine strong- possibly a compression test
just be selective and dont be afraid to ask questions

RE: Looking into buying a 5.0
there was obviously something wrong with the 95 or the driver missed a gear or three to run a 18 sec quarter. That's slower than hondas! Well, almost..... It is true that the 94-95's are slower. If a half a sec (give or take a little) in the quarter mile will make your buying decision, between a sn95 and a fox, then go for it. If you like the body style better, go with the year you want. It doesn't take much to make the 94-95's quicker. It's still a 5.0 and there are a million go fast goodies out there to help it out. I've had an 89 gt and a 95 gt and I personally like the interior and style of the sn95's better, although I really miss my 89. But everyone has their taste. I think most people on here would say to go with a fox. If speed, stock for stock, is what you want, then go with a fox. But it depends on the car you are buying. You might find a 94 5.0 with mods for cheap that runs 13's. You might find a fox that's in better condition, low miles for the same price and stock that runs 14's. Either way, it's a 5.0 and if you're gonna do mods, then there's a whole world of stuff out there for either car.

yeah, i totally agree with sick95gt on this, if you youre looking to keep the car stock, then get a fox body they will be alittle faster. but if you do mods to it they even out, and if you choose the right stuff youll blow away most everything on the road. the 94-95 mustangs also have some nice things that most people dont tell guys wanting to buy one about. they have 5 lug wheels and disk brakes all around, nicer interior, and the car is just more solid than a fox body. when i say more solid i mean the torque boxes are stronger, they wont twist up as easy as the fox bodys. and as far as the computer. if you are gonna do lots of mods to the car you dont want the stock computer in either car controling the fuel and timing, youll wanna get a chip burned for it or get some kinda programable engine management system. so as far as which car to get, it is all about preference. either way, a 5.0 mustang is still an awesome car to have.

compression test?! wtf lol. who goes to look at a car and asks them to do a compression test....
just start it and by the sound of the engine as long as it sounds good, no smoke from the pipes, chances are its good. main things to watch are the rear floors and around the torque boxes, take it for a dsrive.. if it works good, buy it.

i personally like the fox better cuz they are more rare. i dont know about your area but fox bodies around here are more expensive than the 94-95 5.0s i guess because the foxes are more rare and desirable they are going up in value. As far as reliability iv had my fox for about a year and a half and no problems. i bought it with 80k and now it has 100k and still not a problem yet. knock on wood.

if you want a nice car that you're gonna keep stock, i'd get the sn95 style. the interior is sooo much better to ride in as a daily driver.
if you want to mod your stang and go faster and faster all the time, then get a fox.
