Default Unknown part in automatic overdrive transmission

Does anyone know what this part is? It is off of a 1985 Mustang 5.0. It fell out of my automatic overdrive transmission as soon as I took the tranny pan off (so I didn't see it fall) and I can't seem to find anywhere that it is supposed to go and was unsure of the name or how to look it up. I have asked people at auto parts stores and also bought an automatic tranny overhaul manual and still havn't had any luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

Heh surprisingly another guy asked not too long ago, its an assembly line part used to plug the dipstick tube hole and falls in when the tube is installed. It just gets thrown away, but means your fluid hasn't been changed. How many miles does your car have?

Not a problem, the only reason I ask is that if the tranny fluid gets so worn or burned, you aren't suppose to change it. I normally go with its good as long as it isn't burned but some people say don't touch it if its over 100k miles

oh. Well we've already taken the filter off and dumped it so kinda late now. I've never heard of that tho. I've always been taught that if any area has internal wear and tear and fluid lubricating it then its best to change it.

I can't remember the exact details but its something like the tranny grows use to working with the debris that's in it and since tranny fluid is very detergent, it will wash that stuff out and you can do the math. Its sort of like how you don't clean a high mileage engine if it never has been because it can cause leaks. You should be ok if the fluid wasn't real dark or smelled burned.
