94 GT Vert Mods - Thoughts?
Hi guys,
I've been reading the threads for a few hours now and think I've made some decisions, but really want some more input.
My wife's main ride is the 94 GT Vert Auto. For her, it's OK. But when I have to drive it I am less than impressed. It is pretty much all stock with just a KN air filter and Flowmasters. Oh yeah, new plugs a little while ago. I am not looking for ball buster acceleration, just better drivability. Less than 70k miles.
My first thoughts are a set of either 3.55 or 3.73 gears. That shift into forth right now just seems to make the car fall on it's face and I'm always having to accelerate harder than I want to get back into third.
Next would be sub frame connectors only to stiffen it up some. After that maybe some ignition stuff? I would really like to see a little better gas mileage as our 3/4ton 454 4x4 Suburban gets about the same gas mileage as the Mustang.
Also, was the tower brace stock on this vintage? Mine has one and I'm not sure if it is stock or previous owner put it on.
I know one can go crazy on hopping this thing up, but I want to take it real slow.
Any additional input would be greatly appreciated.

Get some 4.10's and be done with it. Gas mileage has so many variables (tune, driver technique, tires, weather etc.) but on equal car the 4.10s will slighty reduce gas mileage due to higher rpm's.
I believe the strut tower brace was a dealer installed option.

I think I am going to go with the 3.73 gears. Little more than the 3.55 and a little more streetable than the 4.10.
It appears that there is just a gear that needs to be changed out in the transmission to correct the speedo for the new gears, correct?
I also saw talk of the MSD ignition. Is the 6A box worth the effort on just a daily driver?
Thanks for the insight.

Yea the speedo gear is in the tranny. Its like a 15 or 20 dollar part but some are hard to find. I had to special order my 3:73 speedo gear from steeda, but it was still only 16 dollars. A shop will put it in for like 40 dollars or you could do it yourself.

Oh and I would recomend 4:11s in a automatic. My 5 spd has 3:73s and i can still drive it on the freeway fine at 80, its about 2800 rpm., and 4:11s in an auto are about the same thing as 3:73s in a manual.

Thanks for the info. I am gonna stick with 3.73 gears since it is for the wife. She gets in enough trouble as it is.
I have 79 Trans Am 4-speed with a balanced and blueprinted 400 that provides me playtime.
Even still, I would like the Mustang to be a more enjoyable machine for her. Of course the only things she really worries about is how well the stereo works. I will also go for the sub frame connectors to stiffen it up some.
I will say this about this forum - you guys all have alot of really good info and just reading it provides a huge amount of insight.

I just had mine done. Before the tune, I barely got 20 mpg, even if I didn't make any runs down the track. After the tune, I am getting about 22 mpg, and that's with making runs at the track.
