Electrical Problems
Alright well the last time i posted here i needed to replace a gas tank (which i did) in my fox. Now im having electrical problems, i got the car fixed and it didn't start so we jumped it and it worked (this was a week ago) after that the driver side power window stopped working. i left it alone and taped it up because i had a really busy week. Now today i went to get in my 88 gt and find it did not start. i had a friend come over with a multimeter and test the battery and it didnt even give me a volt. the only thing that was changed on the car was the head unit and connections for a speaker box (which was not done by me). now the previous owner decided to touch the cable to the battery and use it (which is stupid). now my question is is the problem the radio or the power window motor which caused the battery to drain? sorry if i sound like a complete idiot. i know absolutely (mechanically) nothing about cars. Just looking for some help before i take it into the mechanic.

How old is the battery. also look at the sides of the battery if they are bulging out you have a dead cell or two in the battery. Try using a dif battery and disconnect the power from the amps and stereo. If it stays charged then you know it is the stereo some where.

Check fuses?
Yeah with some cd players people often wire the power in wrong and if you drive the car everyday its fine but if it sits a few days or a week it`ll kill the battery!
oh and btw very few mechanics are good with electrical problems! It dosent matter the amount of mechanical knowledge one has electricity can cause then to shoot themselves in some cases lol!

You will need to test to see where the current draw is, that is if the battery still tests good. Hook up an amp meter to the battery(this goes in series so you need to disconnect the car batt and insert the meter between the open leads) and see what kind of current is being drawn. It should not be more then .02 amps or as low as possible. If you have a higher reading, start pulling fuses one at a time and seeing if the current draw goes away. Once you pull the fuse and the current draw stop, then you can see what part of the car is causing the drain.

why not check for a drain first?? recharge battery then pull neg cable and hook a multimeter set to amps in series between cable and neg batt post and see what the draw is, if it is more than 25-50 milliamps try unhooking stereo stuff, then pull fuses as stated to isolate the drain to a specific circuit.

It seems that he may need some info as to what a DMM is and what is what as of series circuit is and why you cant just touch the meter and get a current reading!
maybe a schematic would help idk, i dont have anyway to upload one with drawn in arrows to help sorry!
