Default Pilot Bearing Help!!

Putting new clutch/flywheel in a 93 Mustang Cobra, I tried my trusted old fill the caivity with grease trick, but pilot bearing wouldn't budge, so I rented pilot bearing tool from advance, what came out was inner needle bearing part and not the race?? it looks like the jaws on the tool won't grab the race lips enough to remove, any idea's. Can I just use the new inner bearing with the old race, I'd rather not but really don't see how to get the race out. maybe a differnt type puller?? any help much appreciated.

no. You can not. get a good sharp chisel and break it. It is made out of a brass/pot metal material and it will break without too much trouble. It will be a little stubborn. Just be careful not to damage the crankshaft. You will need to basically break it into 2 pieces. So basically try to chisel it at say position 12:00 and position 6:00. then it wil come out easy.

the inner caged roller type bearying is only about 1 inch accross. If that is what came out you still have the about 2 inch around part to get out. It is not supposd to be in 2 pieces. Just look at your new bearing and you will see what it is.

Thanks, I'll try and chisle it out, my new pilot bearing has the inner needle bearing part
1" diameter already inside the race, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again

I usually get them out in two pieces. The puller will pull the needle bearing then I have to use it again to pull out the outer sleeve. Before I had my puller I used a chisel to remove the bearing once.

If they are stubborn, I will just get a dremel with a cutting wheel on it and slice it out.
