Default 1994 5.0 engine light

Hi ,

I'm over in the UK, I'm due to get 1994 5.0 soft top soon. The car has an engine warning light on the dash, engine check light, the car seems to run fine starts OK.

It has straight through exhausts on it, could this be the problem causing my light, there are sensors on the exhaust, the only thing it does seem a little sluggish, but I have only had the car on test drive and don't know it that well.

Can anyone suggest any ideas, then I can sort this problem out as soon as possible. The wife wants to use the car also, so it's got to be OK or else!

Cheers,

Paul.

You need to check the codes to see what is causing the cel to iluminate.

There are alot of things that the computer looks at when you first start the car . Such as all the sensors that send feedback to the ecu .
It could be somthing as simple as the thermactor inop if someone has removed the cats and smog pump system. Or it could be somthing along the lines of a sensor that is readiing out of range.

If it has a straight lipped exhaust then that would deffinatly give you a check engine light to fix this you would get MIL plug sensors that plug into the o2 sensors this may also be causing the sluggishness because the computer recognizes that something is wrong and wants to compensate to fix it that sounds like the problem but it may have other problems it may have misfires causing sluggishness

Yup, mine's the same way. No cats w o2 sensors. Except I had the CEL before the exhaust was done. It turned off afterwards. Weird

Just asking, but what's the point in having the o2's on them in the first place?

02's are there to monitor the richness or leaness of the air fuel mix. It allows the ecu to more precisely controll how much fuel delivery is needed. Same as with obdII upstream sensors exept that with obdII it uses some downstream sensors to check the efficiancy of the catalytics. So obdI has a single set of upstream sensors while obdII has a set of upstream as well as a set of downstream sensors

Default Thanks

Thanks Gents, that's given me something to go at. I've got a 67 and 68 Fastbacks and they don't have all these electrics.

Cheers.
