Retired '87 LX 5.0L power steering needs help
#11
Is 2.25 turn steering rack same as 2.5 turns?
On my '87 LX 5.0's power steering, it is 2.25 turns of the steering wheel stop to stop. I'm looking at the Duralast #64163 at AutoZone's website for which it states 2.25 turns, one-piece housing. I'm confident it will work, but it's not in stock PLUS I have a $25 coupon for Adv Auto.
Adv Auto sells Cardone brand racks. They have one, #22-207, that the description says it's 2.5 turns, not 2.25, PLUS it is on the shelf here in the town where I'm currently at work 30 miles from home. I'd like to get all this done this weekend and would like to pick the Adv Auto one up before I go home for the weekend, if it'll work with my car.
So, are they rounding 2.25 up to 2.5 in their description, or what? I would think that the teeth of a true 2.5 turn rack wouldn't mesh with the teeth of a shaft meant for a true 2.25 turn rack.
