Distributor Help.
Hey all,
Im not experienced with distributors. I pulled mine when I took the intake mani and valve covers off. I put a line on the cap and on the block.
I finally have everything put back together but it wont turn over. I am thinking somehow or somewhere I got the dist out of whack. There is a #1 on the dist cap which I have going to the front left cylinder. Im assuming that is my #1 on the firing order.
How do I check which cylinder is my #1? Also, I followed the the proper firing order from #1 counter clockwise. It tries, but wont turn over.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Tyler

Remove cylinder 1 plug front of engine passenger side. Rotate engine by hand using a socket and breaker bar on the crank / balancer bolt. Bring the #1 up to tdc on the compression stroke you can use verify this by having some one turn the engine over slowly while you hold your finger over the plug hole till you feel pressure build under your finger. Use a wood dowl or similar and insert into plug hole you will feel the piston in there and when you start slowly turning the crank the dowel rod will move up or down If it start to move down you have gone to far. If it moves up continue cranking till it stops going up and just barely starts to drop again . This is TDC , the mark on the 0 degree mark on the balancer should line up with the timing pointer.
Once you are certain you are on tdc compression check the dizzy , the rotor should be pointing at the #1 spot on the cap... If its not your dizzy is off .. You need to restab it. There is a line on the base of the distributor that should line up with a mark on the block also ,, Look in this first picture to show where the line should be on the dizzy base ,, the 0 is where there is a notch in the block
You dizzy should look similar to the picture where the #1 is located and the clips are.

My mustang won't turn on, the key turns but it just won't turn completely on, at first it was the distributor rotor and I replaced but it broke again, so I bought me a whole new distributor, but it won't turn on, when I turn the key it sounds like it does not have gas, but it has a quarter of a tank, could it be that I didn't plug in the right wires into the cap..

We need a little more input than "my mustang won't start".
