Just to clarify, what do you mean "raw gas smoke" Assuming black smoke, surprised that there are no codes for a rich condition or missfire. Something just not adding up here.

Hmmm raw fuel? Lots of smoke?The three most common 5.0 reasons are
a failed fuel pressure regulator diapram dumping too much fuel into the injectors,
bad coil pack aloowing weak to no spark, remove the connector to it and see if its charred white, or even sparking at night with a window spray bottle.
