'89 Power steering rack giving out?
Hey guys,
Power steering running out of fluid again, turns out one side of the rack had some sort of blowout and is now leaking like a b!tch. Again. So now its time to put another rack in it. Again.
It seems like once every 2 years.
Is one any better than the next in offerings from Autozone and Advance that might hold out for say... 3 years this time, or are they all substandard crap?

I'm not sure if it was Autozone or Advanced. Which also means that I sure as hell don't have a receipt, which is the real injustice.
That and the fact that they purposely print the receipt with ink that will be completely illegible within 30 days. :P
I'm going to have to start taking photos of all my receipts and filing them.

your pump might be pushing too much pressure and blowing out the rack...could also just be bad rebuilds. personally i would just get a manual rack since it seems that every 2-3 years you are paying for another power rack.

Yeah, probably not going to put a manual rack on it. You do, of course know how fox bodys turn without power assist, right? They don't! LOL
I do have kinda beefy tires all around, though.

But you have to admit, when you're in a tight parking lot trying to sneak into that parking spot, all the elements are working against you. Low speed, big beefy tires, and a turning radius similar to a dump truck. I live in an apartment complex that has a real tight parking lot, and its hard enough WITH power steering, the last thing I need is a manual rack to fight with.
