Default Power vs. Manual Steering

Hello to all, I did a quick search & did not find much on this subject, so I need feedback. My 90 5.0 has the OEM rack & steering in it. Before I go further; there is nothing wrong with it. It works as designed, it's soft to the touch & serves its purpose. However, for performance driving it is not very good, just way too soft. So I have 3 questions; thanks in advance to all for advice.

1. Is there anything I can do to make the OEM steering a bit tougher? Overdrive the unit by switching to a larger pulley to slow down the pump? Can this be done or has it been done?

2. Is there a power rack option that has a performance feel to it?

3. Should I ditch the power option & get a manual rack like a Flaming River unit? If so, how tough is it??

My car only gets used on weekends & on the street. I go to the track every year or so; so not a track car. Thanks again for the feedback.

I'm a little confused by what your looking for. I've never heard powerstearing described with the word soft before.

More / Less responsive, More / Less feedback, etc, etc.

Looking at your info, are you trying to get your Fox to handle like your '08 ?

Nice looking Notch by the way.

I miss my power steering. I think flaming river makes a quick ratio power rack. The manual steering isnt too bad with skinny tires on the front, but it does get old after a while.
I havent tried mine with any other tires on the front, so I cant say how it is with regular tires.

Thank you for the nice words. Yes, the power steering in my 2008 is much more firm, better road feel, more feedback. The power steering in the 90 is very "cadillac". Less responsive & too light (turns too easily) so less road feel. I am looking for an upgrade instead of an OEM replacement. Hopefully that makes sense.

I think that Flaming River has what you are looking for. I've been using there stuff for about 9 years on my car and have no problems about it.
Just be ready to pay some $$$ for it.......

The Flaming River manual rack has been very durable for me. I have at least 10,000 racetrack miles on mine, probably more, and it's still tight, and very good road feel, like a go-kart. I do not recommend quick ratio for the street though, it's a bear at low speeds.
