Just curious as to if I missed something. Your swapping in another complete 7.5 by the picture. Why are you pulling your old axles out ? No need to pull the cover off at all.

And if your doing this on stands, make sure you get the car high enough to swing the axle down and out. Safety first though.

So that I dont have to bleed the brakes afterward. Plus I dont know the condition of the new 7.5s brakes. I havent checked the shoes that are on mine now, so I guess i might end up going with the entire new 7.5 brakes included, they dont look too bad.

I DO have to remove axles to get backing plate off, right?

You DEFINITELY have to bleed the brakes. Whenever the system is opened anywhere between the reservoir and the wheel cylinder/caliper, air gets inside. Might as well start soaking the bleeder screws with penetrant now, too.

But if I remove the axles and hang the backing plate while doing the removal/install I would never have to open the system. I guess im assuming axle removal is easier/less tedious than bleeding the brakes.

Aren't you disconnecting the brake line near the diff housing before unbolting the old axle assembly?

you can swap in a rear with never opening the brake system, just unclip brake lines , leave backing plates hang with all hardware and un fasten the bolt that holds the line to the rear.......done it more than once

Im beginning to doubt that it was the rearend....going to drain the transmission and see if i get any metal shavings, I didnt think transmissions would just go out like that, it whined a bit in 1st thru 3rd when cold and quieted down a bit when warm but shifted fine. I dont hear a noise from it when i spin the driveshaft either.

Tranny was filled with gear oil, I've read that some people sAy to put gear oil in non-WC t5s but it seems that regular atf is better, no metal shavings in the oil i drained either.
