Default Normal idle timing advance WITH SPOUT

Hey guys, I've had terrible trouble with ignition timing on this car. I couldn't get the base timing to stay at 10 BTDC. It looks like a new distributor with TFI module has fixed it. BUT, with the car hot and idling around ~800 RPM the timing is a steady 20 deg BTDC with the SPOUT in.

10 deg BTDC with SPOUT out at idle
20 deg BTDC with SPOUT in at idle

(no the timing chain never jumped a tooth, and no cam gear did not come loose, I checked)

I cannot find any specs for ignition timing with the SPOUT in, does anyone have any info? 20 seems like a lot.

Sounds about right. With the SPOUT in the computer is controlling the timing so its higher. You'll notice car runs better due to the higher timing, kinda like when base timing is raised from 10-14 for free HP.

Also on a side note, I'm running a Holley Dominator EFI on my car and it runs anywhere from 20-25 degrees at idle. Computer constantly changes timing to make it idle smoother.

Perfectly normal, as Boss stated.

Okay! That is comforting. And yes I DID notice the car idled smoother with the SPOUT in and the advanced timing.

Also yes I will be increasing this advance manually for free HP the only reason I was shooting for 10 was because I was afraid of the 20 the computer was doing automatically. (not afraid anymore).

I'm saddened by the fact I've never been able to hear pinging. I know my hearing is not so good. This makes me disappointed because I'd love to increase timing until it starts to ping but for now I don't go above 14 BTDC just for fear of damage down the line. I've looked into the installing a knock sensor but that research usually leads nowhere.

14' is usually the safe point, but it sure would be nice to verify with a good set of ears lol.

Don't feel bad, mine is going too, and I'm also getting my first set of bifocals this week. Ouch !!!
