Default upgrade 88 to 89 engine

I have an 88 hatchback with a 5.0 that I want to add power components to. I have read that the 89 thru 92 engines are the best to modify. Can I convert with 88 to an 89 with components?

The only real difference is 86-88 Stangs were Speed Density cars and th 89-93 Stangs were Mass Air Flow cars, Im sure theres more minor things but thats just the big difference.

you can change your motor to mass air instead of speed density and that will allow you to modify the engine better. to me there is no need in changing the whole engine

i put a motor out of an 89 vert in to an 88 gt...it runs fine...but if you got the motor all you really need to do is convert it to mass air...and you got the same thing...it is probably cheaper to buy the conversion kit than to go out and buy a complete 89 motor with all asseccories and hook up...i would just install the conversion kit..

An 88 and an 89 are identical motors. As stated by others the only difference is speed density vs mass air. You don't have to convert the entire motor. All you need is the mass air meter and harness from the 89. maybe some other things as well. maybe someone who has done this conversion can chime in.

just do a mass air conversion on your car and you will have the same as an 89
